4,700 times heart and soul and manual labor
Record cabin is a TRAIL 220 on its way to Iceland
It’s standard practice at Tischer: Peter Tischer or a leading member of staff hands over finished cabins in person and provides detailed instructions. This was not possible for the 4,700th model that left the production line in Kreuzwertheim. It would have been too far to travel to Iceland, where the Tischer dealer and then its new owner soon took delivery of it. For loading, the 45-foot truck casts a wide shadow in front of the Tischer site. In addition to the record-breaking TRAIL 220 cabin, there is also space for a TRAIL 230 and a TRAIL 275S in the transport giant. Quite appropriate for such a record, says cabin veteran Tischer. However, there is more to celebrate in 2018 than just the record-breaking export to Iceland.
45 years of cabin construction with a manufacturing concept
1973, two camping fans, one wish: more flexible travel. “When my father and I introduced drop-off cabs for pick-ups to the German market 45 years ago, we had no such sales figures in mind. Today, we sell around 200 cabs a year – we thought we were serving a small niche,” recalls Peter Tischer. Objectively speaking, drop-off cabins have also remained a niche market. However, demand is developing dynamically and in a rapidly growing caravanning market overall. The “Tischer fan community” is gaining more and more members. Recently, the number of participants at the annual Tischer meeting has broken records twice. There were around 270 guests in 2018. We know each other, we appreciate each other. Above all, customers appreciate the Tischer team’s absolute identification with each individual cabin. “That’s why we still do a lot of our manufacturing by hand – both in cabin construction and furniture production,” explains Peter Tischer. Visitors to Kreuzwertheim will therefore look in vain for an assembly line or an industrial robot. As far as demand is concerned, he could also increase the number of units, explains Peter Tischer. However, quality would suffer as a result and everything else would be subordinate to it. It is about a valuable combination of traditional craftsmanship and a modern living experience on the move.
45-foot high-capacity packaging for three set-down cabins
A truck of this size is a rarity in front of the Tischer site. Its cargo hold has a capacity of 45 feet. To ensure that this size pays off, the record-breaking TRAIL 220 cabin is not traveling alone: also on board the freighter to Iceland are a TRAIL 230 and a TRAIL 275S. The TRAIL variants now account for around two thirds of Tischer’s total production. Its distinguishing feature: the rounded design of the alcove. It gives the TRAIL a modern design and a streamlined shape. With this combination of aerodynamics and optics, Tischer set new standards in 1990. A noble impression, which in the case of the record-breaking cabin in front of the panorama of geysers, waterfalls and northern lights will certainly be even more impressive. The dealer in Kópavogur near Reykjavik is already looking forward to his new treasures for the exhibition space. Meanwhile, Tischer is already working on the next records – by hand and with heart and soul, of course.
